Japanese Knotweed

Are you Looking for a Japanese Knotweed Specialist to Help You?

Japanese Knotweed is one of the most common and problematic invasive weeds in the UK today due to its resilience, rapid growth rate and difficulty to fully remove.

Identifying Japanese Knotweed

Japanese knotweed eradication is important in order to protect the environment as well as preventing it from growing through small cracks in walls, concrete and structural foundations of homes and workplaces. It’s important not to ignore any knotweed growth and find a specialist capable of killing the Japanese knotweed. It can potentially cause a lot of expensive damage to your property including issues when you decide to sell your home or apply for a mortgage.

You should also be careful if you find knotweed growing in your home as if it spreads to your neighbour’s property, you will be held liable and allowing this to happen might result in a fine or even a court case.

Some homeowners are choosing to take their neighbours to court to sue for damages to their property because Japanese knotweed has spread from another home. This has resulted in them having to unfairly pay the Japanese knotweed removal costs. If you are in this situation, it’s best to seek legal advice, we recommend https://www.charleslyndon.com/

Homeowners

Many homeowners are now taking their neighbours to court (and winning) to recover monies lost if Japanese Knotweed has spread from the adjacent property into theirs causing damage and incurring removal costs.

Our eradication treatment options

On projects where time is of a premium, we can excavate the contaminated soil and store it in an isolated zone on-site for upcoming treatment with herbicide. In a precise move, the infestation can be quarantined inside the site boundary, clearly signed and protected with a root barrier membrane in position. The membrane is there to stop further contamination, leaving the main site available for continued development. The infestation can be treated at a later, more convenient time to work around your specific needs.

Foliar Application-Herbicide Treatment

Foliar application is useful for large swathes of infested sites that are not ecologically sensitive areas nor subject to strict treatment deadlines. Foliar spraying uses herbicides topically – the weed absorbs the herbicide through the leaves.

As such this takes time for the weed to absorb the herbicide down to its rhizome. Only then does this ensure no re-growth occurs. A number of treatments are required for effectiveness and may take up to 4 years to complete. Foliar spraying is dependent on weather conditions.

Excavate and on-site burial

When the project is time limited and space restricted, we may have to excavate the infestation and then bury the contaminated soil in a specialised sealed membrane pod. The site must remain untouched after excavation and re-burial and clearly marked on all site plans. The Environment Agency will then need to be advised that this procedure has taken place and plans are approved with them.

Excavation and Removal

The process involves the excavation of the soil then taking the contaminated soil off site to a licensed landfill by a licenced waste carrier. We ensure we provide reasonable rates with landfill waste carriers that are licensed to take the contamination. Because of our experience we can substantially lower the amount of waste taken off site by our highly qualified specialists, in root tracing.

Stem injection

Our unique stem injection process is proven to be the most cost effective and environmentally-friendly form of treatment. With Japanese Knotweed and other invasive plants inhabiting a vast number of development sites in the UK, and our reputation for excellent and effective treatment, we are sure we will continue to grow.

Stem injection involves injecting a concentrate of glyphosate herbicide into each cane of the weed using specialist equipment specifically designed in the treatment of Japanese Knotweed.

Japanese Knotweed absorbs the glyphosate into the rhizome with a faster absorbency rate than that of foliar spraying. Less risky to the environment, as the injected herbicide has no effect on the surrounding vegetation and is also safe to use near water, stem injection an effective eradication method.

Results can be seen in as little as a fortnight. From injection the weed goes dormant and noticeable signs of foliar deterioration appear within days after treatment. Any canes untreated during the course will be visible within the two-week period and a re-application carried out as part of the treatment process. Treatment is not affected by wind, rain or convection. Stem injection can be used at anytime during the growing season.

Environmentally sensitive areas

We also specialise in the treatment of Japanese Knotweed on or near water by using the stem injection process. As a process, this is something which minimises any risk to water and the overall environment. We have vast experience in survey and licence requirements and will make sure all documentation is filed and complete with the correct government organisations.
We offer efficient Japanese Knotweed removal.
