Bamboo is gradually taking over the top spot, rivalling the dreaded Knotweed.
As most homeowners are aware, having Japanese Knotweed on the property can cause many sleepless nights due to the facts surrounding it, for instance, Japanese Knotweed root system can be as extensive as 7 meters from where visible above ground growth is, and at a depth of up to 3 meters which could produce new growth from the rhizome at any point and therefore continue to expand, meaning it could be creeping towards the property without any visual indication.
Bamboo of the running kind can extend up to 30ft in width, with at depth of half a meter at most, spreading at such a vast speed that could soon take over and cause significant damages to whole gardens including patios, garden sheds etc.
The most common reasons behind planting the Japanese Knotweed (in Victorian times) and Bamboo in fact due to the fantastic screening they provide which can tolerate even the highest winds. However, bamboo is now starting to become highly invasive and yet sold without warnings which is causing it to spread as out of control as Japanese Knotweed.
Unlike Knotweed, bamboo has no lending restrictions and is not a requirement for homeowners to tell prospective buyers of the invasive plant, although this can still pose the same amount of risks as Japanese Knotweed and the damages to the property can be just as extensive.
Removal or containment of both invasive plants are advised. For professional Japanese knotweed treatment and
